Welcome to
Hey! You have reached the official Smash 3C Website, but you might have some some doubts about what's this about or what we do. You must have so many questions and we'll try to answer those, but first we must start with a simple question.
What is Smash 3C?
What is Smash 3C?
What is Smash 3C?
Smash 3C It's a mod for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a continuation of the Smash 3 style through community-created content.
That's a lot of C's, so Smash 3C stands for all of them! Also cabbages! and croissant! Who's a member of the Smash 3C Project, then? All of you! Any time you make a Smash 3-style texture or mod, label it Smash 3C!
If you want to be on this very website, head over to our Discord to get some help with the final touches!
Alright, I get that this also adds another unanswered question to our list-
Smash 3 is a visual overhaul of Brawl, with the goal of bringing Smash 4's visual style to Brawl. Although they replicated the visual style, they didn't replicate Smash 4 1:1, as there are some things that just can't be brought over, like they didn't add new Smash 4 characters or Smash 4 gameplay.
Just think of it like Brawl was developed with the visual style of Smash 4.
If you wish to know more about this, you can check the original Smash 3 Releases here
And that automatically brings up another question.
Why does
Smash 3C Exist?
Well at first the reason was to work on the Project M costumes (a defunct mod of Brawl). That's because the Smash 3 Team only released the base cast of the Brawl characters plus Project M Roy, Mewtwo and the Doctor Mario costume. After this was accomplished, the Smash 3C main focus switched to giving this artstyle to other cool mods. But it's not just for characters; anything can be made with 3C style! Even items or assist trophies! You name it!
And finally, we can stop with the questions.
How to get started
Want to contribute to this project but you don't have any basic modding skills?
Don't worry, we all start somewhere. You could start following the texture tutorial made by the Smash 3 Team here.
Then I'd suggest to watch basic Photoshop or Gimp tutorials on how to texture cloth, skin or whatever parts you need to work with. You could also check other useful resources pinned in our Discord server #guides-and-resources channel to help you on this process.
Don't be afraid to post your progress on our Discord server, we'll try to give feedback to what to change or improve.
Then there's the "What you shouldn't do part":
Do not just use the Hue/Sat tool on already existing textures and call it done.
Do not take away details just because you are making new textures, if anything it should be the contrary.
Try to not use the original resolution; when working on a texture, try bigger resolutions like 1024x, 2048x or more!, the render and the Dolphin HD textures wil definitely benefit from that!
And last but not least, don't be afraid to tackle a texture just because it looks "complicated or too difficult to do".
Extra note: another part of the process is adding rimlighting to the materials and shaders. If you want to know how you can check the Smash 3 Rimlighting tutorial here (this method only works for characters and assist trophies!).
